Fiction Central Closing
Since its founding in the Fall of 2005, Fiction Central has served as a wonderful place for those who write original fiction. Many of our members come from HPFF as they move from writing fanfiction into the world of original works. Each member, whether from HPFF or whether they have found us by some other means, has provided their time, talent, and creativity to make what Fiction Central is today.
Unfortunately, it is with profound sadness that I must announce the closing of the site. Staffing and server issues prevent our ability to update and maintain the site at the level we believe it should be handled and we have made the decision to permanetly shut down the site. The shut down of a site this large does have its own difficulties and we want to make sure that every author has the opportunity to backup and archive both their content and their reviews. Therefore, the shutdown will occur in stages.
Today, we have closed all new registrations for both the archive and the forum. In the next 24 hours, you will see the closing of the queue to all submissions. For the next few weeks, you will still maintain access to your author and forum accounts so that you can backup any material you would like to. Sometime around December 1 (but no earlier), all accounts will be restricted and account access will no longer be possible. After this time, stories will still be viewable as an archive.
We appreciate the long standing support you've shown the site and we wish you all the best with your future writing endeavours.

Monthly Challenge
This month's challenge is a little different. It's aimed at people not taking part in NaNoWriMo, though those that are taking part in NaNo can do it as well if they so wish. November's challenge comes in two parts.
For those of you that write poetry, your challenge is to write a story of any length, genre and rating.
For those that write stories, your challenge is to write a poem, or several poems if you so wish of any length, genre and rating (keep in mind poetry must be in books of 10 before it can be counted as complete).
The deadline for this month's challenge is
December 10th. Anyone writing a multi-chapter story, the first chapter must be online by this date. The same goes for the poetry - the first poem, if you are writing more than one, must be online by the deadline. As always, entries must comply with TOS. Any entry that doesn't meet the TOS or challenge requirements will not be accepted.
Good luck to everyone that is entering a challenge this month, whether it is a Fiction Central challenge or NaNoWriMo.
And while I'm on the topic of challenges, a proposal has arisen on the forums for awarding people entering both monthly challenges and forum challenges. There will be more information on this in a couple of weeks.

November Announcements
First of all, I apologise for not getting a challenge, recommended author or reviewer of the month out in October. There was going to be a newsletter, which I hoped to be a special one seeing as it was the year anniversary, but once again I didn't get anything to put in it, and I couldn't see the point in doing one. I'm not sure if there will be a newsletter again this year, though I do hope to resume it next year with a brand new look. To anyone that's involved in the newsletter, I do still want things sending in ready for when the next one appears!

Monthly Challenge
The challenge this month is to write a mystery or thriller type story with the following first line:
"The lights appeared out of the darkness..."
It can be a short story or novel of any genre/category, though Mystery or Thriller is recommended.
Your entry can have one chapter, or many chapters. If it is a multi-chaptered story, the first chapter must be online by the deadline. Stories must be TOS compliant, and any story not meeting the rules of the challenge will be deleted.
Deadline: 17th July
Good luck!
I realise some of the rules for challenges aren't very clear. There is one particular one that seems to have been missed with one of the entries for the last challenge.
Entries for the monthly challenge must be written specifically for the challenge, and not stories written before hand that fit with the challenge.
