Absolutely, awesome story I like one of the last line the best; funeral are for the living not the dead and cute naming the cat before stealing her food. Atlantic City is funny; your right they do have a feed the cat program, but lack a bit in helping the city’s homeless. Anyway, really enjoyed your story; I wasn’t planning on reading one today but your summery pulled me in. Good job; from one Atlantic City girl to another.  ~S @}--

I loved this and can't wait for the next chapter!

It seems like such a simple scene yet I am left with so many questions.

Looking forward to Chapter 2.

God, I love your writing style. Uncomplicated and clean, you have an easy way of drawing the reader into the story without getting overly descriptive. The hints at Carolena's pride were very well done. It was plain that tragedy has befallen her, and life has not been pretty, but you don't give it all away here in this first chapter. She's tough, and doesn't depend on anyone, yet Nicolai gets past her defenses. I get the feeling she wouldn't have allowed that generosity from any other person. His connection to that happier time found the chink in her armor. The entire scene with the cat and its kibble just grabbed me, and I found my stomach clenched with the shame and disgust Lena must have felt. You've created a sympathetic character, and I really would love to keep reading to find out what happens next. Excellent beginning.~DOW
