Why the Sky Cries
Once upon a time, the world was a beautiful place. The sky contained dozens of colors, hues that could not be reproduced for anything but the sky’s use. The clouds never hung over the world to cast a dismal glare upon the ground, but to emphasize the beauty of the horizon. The people residing in this beautiful world did not grimace at each other; instead they smiled so largely that their teeth showed and their eyes crinkled with delight.
Everything was beautiful; everything was perfect. Frowns were rarely seen, for nothing could possibly make the people of this glorious land sad. There were no lies available, no broken promises, no diseases or frightful creatures to disrupt this calm serenity. The food never went bad, and the flowers never wilted.
And yet, despite all of these extravagant details that the world had been handed, the most notable of all was this: it never rained.
It was always sunny outside, always the perfect temperature. Everything grew by itself. The grass did not need any help to sprout up at the perfect length. The apple trees did not need the water’s assistance to produce their delectable fruits. The only use that water had was for cooking and sheer entertainment.
Everybody in the world had a home, and each home was tall and uniquely designed. All of the children laughed and ran around their neighborhoods merrily, playing happy games with their friends. The mothers and fathers discussed dozens of topics, their hands placed firmly in each other’s grip, and they never ceased to smile while this was occurring.
In this beautiful land, there was a kingdom, where a marvelous prince resided. He had the prettiest eyes, a gorgeous smile, and whitewashed teeth that made all the people in the land want to grimace because their teeth could never obtain such perfection. He was polite. He was amazing. Everybody loved the prince because he was so nice.
However, there was something fishy about the dear prince that was almost visible enough for everyone to discover. The thing is, the prince was an amazing liar. He could conceal anything.
Though nobody could actually decide whether or not the strange thing with the prince was true, everybody still loved him. He was given gifts every day. He enjoyed the gifts. They ranged from top-of-the-line horses to silk curtains for his castle. The prince would sit on his throne all day and smile at everybody who walked in. He conversed with them. He loved the people of his land.
One day, while the prince was examining a strange device he had been given, a soft hum arrived. He looked up, and saw a girl. She was average looking. Average height. Average everything.
The thing that wasn't so average about the girl was the light in her eyes. The prince noticed the light, and it was very peculiar.
"What's your name?" the prince asked the girl.
The girl smiled at the prince and extended her arms. She had a basket containing a loaf of bread. The prince picked it up, placed it to his lips, and ate it.
The bread was disgusting. It tasted like bat poop. The prince spat it out immediately, causing the girl to erupt into laughter.
That small incident ignited a love between the average girl and the above average prince.
The prince loved the girl with what seemed to be an undying passion. The girl loved him back, just the same. Their love was so strong; nothing seemed capable of penetrating it.
However, many years later, the strange thing about the prince was finally unveiling. His true love noticed this change, and she became suspicious. As hard as she could, the poor girl could not find out what the prince was hiding. He began to act very mean and cold to the girl. The girl he loved.
The girl grew scared; not only for herself, but for the prince. He had a distant, uncaring look on his face. His eyes bestowed hatred and disgust for things around him. The girl tried more than once mentioning this to the prince, but he laughed it off.
Along with this strange behavior, the weather outside began to grow cold and dismal. It was brutally cold, causing all of the plants to freeze up and die. The children no longer wanted to play outside, fearful that they would become sick. The people of the world did not know what to think about this sudden shift in the atmosphere. Everything was dismal and no longer fun.
One dreary night, the prince went insane. He went looking for the girl who loved him. Her eyes lit up with excitement when she saw her beloved, and his lit up with another kind of emotion—a strange, masochistic kind. He grabbed the girl by the waist and pressed his cold, dry lips against hers. The girl kissed him back with euphoria, but the unfamiliar demeanor of the kiss was strange and disconcerting. This kiss was cold and consumed with malice, not warm and happy like all of the others had been.
The prince pulled away and held a knife to her throat. Grinning like a maniac, he pressed his lips to her ear.
"I don't love you anymore."
The girl gazed into the eyes of her prince and discovered that he was not a human being at all, but a horrible monster.
As the serrated edge of his knife cut into the girl’s thin neck, rain began to pour outside. Thick droplets of water drenched the ground, rolling across the monster’s laughing face as he threw the corpse of the girl who loved him aside.
As the thunder cackled ahead in synchronization of the monster’s profound laughter, the beauty that the world had obtained began to morph into something sinister, something ugly.
As lightning struck the spot where the girl’s last kiss had taken place and created a large bump in the ground, nobody would ever live happily ever after.
